A Night Out

Last night I went out to the Sand Bar to watch my boyfriend shoot pool.  In between his shots, I would observe the people around me and I noticed something intriguing.  All the guys in the bar were dressed casually--blue jeans and t-shirts.  The women, on the other hand, were wearing low cut blouses, tight jeans or skirts, and high heal shoes.

Now I know why the waitresses dress the way they do....that's how they make more tips.  But why do women dress more sophisticated then men?  Are they that hard up on getting noticed?  Why are men not that worried?  This is really mind boggling because when I was growing up, both men and women would dress to impress.  Has fad changed that much in twenty years?

  1. When I grew up about thirty years ago men would wear slacks or bell bottoms with collared shirts. Women did try to leave something to the imagination with long skirts. At my high school women had to wear dresses below the knee. Now I think women are more open to show as much posible. The more skin the better.

  2. I agree with your comments about men dressing more casually. But I'm also noticing that with women as well. I went to a funeral last week and there was a woman there wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans. And this funeral was her grandfather's.

I know that anytime my friends and I go out, guys and girls, alike, dress up and look extra nice. Also, if a guy is going to come and pick me up at my door, they better come dressed nice and not like a slob. It's not just showing respect to the person your with, but it's respect for yourself.

  3. It might be the geographical area. I say that because I live in Flower Mound, Texas--a suburb of Dallas--and the guys dress as nice as the girls. It's funny, my boyfriend is here visiting from Shreveport, and he asked if it was okay for him to wear his camo shirt and sweats to Bass Pro. The asnwer was, "absolutely not!"

  4. I think it has a great deal to do with double standards! Fewer men, more women means more competition. So women try to "out-class" one another to attract a mate.

    Just call me "cynical."
