Single Mom's rock because: They have to hold down a full-time job; keep a household running; be the bad (as well as a good) parent; and always put their children first. Don't you think single moms rock?

A Grandmother's Advice
When I was young I had a conversation with my grandmother (God rest her soul) about life in general. She told me that we all have a destiny--a role to play in this chess game that God calls life. All we have to do is make the right moves. Should we reach a dead end, we need to trace our footsteps back to where we've been and remember the lessons that were learned. I never bothered following this advice until recently when I realized that the path that I was on took me no where. I didn't like who I became or how I felt about myself. When I remembered where I've been and what I've learned, it gave me the strength to wipe the cobwebs from my eyes so I can change my ways. In other words, I've been given another chance to make things right. Have you ever been given a second chance? If so, please share.

ReplyDeleteIt's is funny you wrote about second chances because I'm an advocate of giving second chances. People need a second chance to make right of the wrong they may have done, but when the third, four, and fifth chances start rolling around that is where I draw the line. No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, but to be given a second chance to change your life around is worthless if you go back to making the same mistakes. I always tell myself to "make it count" because sometimes you don't get a second chance.
ReplyDeleteBeing a nontraditional student I can say I'm starting over again, this is my second chance or sixth or ninth. I've lost count. I went to the Army out of high school. I do remember some advice being giving to me by my grandmother also. "Find what you really want. Don't give up, keep trying." The advice of elders are disregraded when it's giving, but it do help us out when we are going through life experiences.
ReplyDeleteI have been given a second chance on acquiring my education. I am 39 years old and will graduate in December. I made that second chance happen myself. I was fortunate, but there are other things in my life that no second chance can be offered. I can not go back to my 20's and do things over that I am sure I would be benefiting from today. I can only go forward and try to make my future brigher. Oh, but if I could only go back to my 20's...
ReplyDeleteI have a grandmother like that. She is full of wonderful advise that I rarely heed. As I get older--I'm only twenty--I realize how smart she is. Yes, I have been given a second chance at life, and a third, fourth, etc. My grandmother says that one day I will learn. I hope so because I don't think I can handle any more trouble.
